A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to singer Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, in the sum of ₦20 million. Justice Ekerete Akpan approved the bail on Wednesday with stringent conditions, including one surety who must be a Level 10 civil servant residing in Abuja.
The surety is required to provide an affidavit of means, verifiable employment details, and recent passport photographs. Speed Darlington is also required to surrender his international passport and remain in custody at Kuje Correctional Centre until the bail terms are fulfilled.
The singer pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of alleged cybercrime brought by the Inspector-General of Police. The charges stem from alleged offensive Instagram posts targeting artist Burna Boy, accused of causing public annoyance and intimidation under the Cybercrimes Act of 2015.
The case has been adjourned to March 18 for trial.
