Dapper Music Denies Allegations Following Shallipopi’s Split

Entertainment

December 12, 2024

On December 11, 2024, rapper Shallipopi announced his split from Dapper Music, citing breach of trust and lack of financial transparency. In a press release on his Instagram, Shallipopi claimed that the label forced him into signing a publishing deal with Dvpper Digital, a subsidiary owned by Damilola Akinwunmi, AKA Dapper. He also alleged that Dapper Music failed to provide full financial details and made him commit to a 30% cut of his earnings in perpetuity.

In response, Dapper Music issued a statement denying these claims, calling them shocking and unfounded. The label emphasized that all contracts are clear and transparent, with artists receiving full legal representation. They also noted that they have cooperated fully with Shallipopi and his auditors, including a recent meeting on December 9, 2024, to discuss his financial requests. Dapper Music clarified that there was no permanent 30% management fee in the contract; the rapper agreed to a standard management cost. The label asserted that they have always conducted business with sincerity and are open to seeking redress in court if necessary.

Dapper Music described the attack on the label as pre-mediated, false, and driven by individuals envious of the company’s success.
