On Thursday, January 2, rising Tampa rapper Doechii released the highly anticipated music video for “Denial Is a River,” a standout track from her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. Co-directed by Carlos Acosta and James Mackel, the video draws inspiration from classic Black sitcoms like Family Matters, using the show’s theme song to reflect on the challenges of her recent life and career.

The video features appearances from several high-profile figures, including comedians Zack Fox and Rickey Thompson, TDE artists ScHoolboy Q and SiR, and other notable musicians like Teezo Touchdown, Earl Sweatshirt, and Baby Tate.

In addition to the video, Doechii hosted a live stream titled “Denial Is a Stream” on her YouTube channel, further promoting the single. The event follows her recent performances on NPR’s Tiny Desk, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and Camp Flog Gnaw.

Following her Billboard Hot 100 debut in 2023 with “What It Is (Block Boy),” Doechii released Alligator Bites Never Heal in August 2024. The mixtape reached No. 82 on the Billboard 200 and landed on several year-end lists.

Doechii is also eyeing up to three Grammy nominations in 2024, including Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance.
