The 17th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards, themed “Back to Base,” was held on Sunday at the Landmark Event Centre, Lekki, marking its return to Nigeria after two years abroad. Hosted by Nancy Isime and IK Osakioduwa, the event celebrated outstanding achievements in the Nigerian and African music industries.
The night featured electrifying performances by Qing Madi, L.A.X, Odumodublvck, Kcee, Shallipopi, Flavour, Juma Jux, and others. Tanzanian artist Juma Jux won Best East African Artiste of the Year and delivered a captivating live performance.
Kcee received the Special Recognition Award for his 26-year contribution to Nigerian music, while late singer Mohbad was posthumously awarded Best Street-Hop Artiste for “Ask About Me.” His family accepted the award to a standing ovation, with additional nominations highlighting Mohbad’s enduring impact.
The night also saw a mild controversy when Next Rated winner Odumodublvck insisted on finishing his acceptance speech after organisers tried to cut him off, eventually allowing him to complete his remarks amid cheers from the audience.
