Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has secured a seat in parliament representing the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Running on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) platform, Dumelo won the 2024 Ghana general elections by garnering 40,561 votes, defeating incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who received 27,377 votes. This victory follows his narrow defeat to Alhassan in the 2020 elections. Dumelo, 40, expressed gratitude to his supporters and promised to deliver on his campaign pledges, emphasizing that the election was about development and addressing the people’s needs. He pledged to work diligently over the next four years to guide Ghana in the right direction. Dumelo began his acting career in 1991 with the film Baby Thief and has since appeared in numerous Ghollywood and Nollywood productions.
