In a candid interview on The Appointment Show with Layo, Darkoo opened up about her experience sharing her truth with her parents, describing the process as particularly challenging with her mother due to their close bond. “The day I told my mum I felt a massive weight off my shoulders, and I’ve been happy since then,” she shared, emphasizing the relief she felt after the conversation. While her discussion with her father was easier, she noted, “It was harder with my mum because I’m closer to her and it was very emotional. My dad didn’t want to have the conversation; he didn’t stop it though.”

Darkoo also acknowledged that, despite her parents’ traditional views on her sexuality, they have shown her love and acceptance. “I bring girls home and my parents don’t mind. I have parents who love me for me,” she said, recognizing their cultural differences: “I know they don’t think what I’m doing is right because they’re African… But they love me and that’s what it is.”

Reflecting on her journey, Darkoo expressed her commitment to living authentically: “This is what makes me happy and I feel whole, I don’t feel like I’m faking it.” She concluded by affirming her spiritual connection, stating, “I’m very spiritual and I feel like I have a good relationship with God, my heart is clean and pure and I’m loving.” Her insights highlight the importance of self-acceptance and the enduring bond of family love.
