Nigerian superstar Davido, a five-time Grammy nominee, has been featured on King Charles III’s newly launched 17-track playlist on Apple Music. The monarch, who expressed his fondness for pidgin English, recalled his previous attempt at delivering a speech in the language during a visit to Nigeria.

Speaking on the playlist, King Charles III stated, “I wanted to share with you songs which have brought me joy. They evoke many different styles and many different cultures. But all of them, like the family of Commonwealth nations, in their many different ways, share the same love of life in all its richness and diversity.”

Davido’s hit song ‘Kante’, featuring Fave, from his Grammy-nominated album ‘Timeless’ (2023), made the list alongside South African music legend Miriam Makeba’s ‘The Click Song’.

The King further shared his hope that listeners would find joy in the selection, stating, “I can only hope you have enjoyed these few songs I have had time to share with you. Perhaps you have heard some of your own favourite pieces—and perhaps you may have discovered something new.”

This is another moment of interaction between the British monarchy and Nigerian music, following Tiwa Savage’s performance at King Charles III’s coronation event in May 2023. Davido’s inclusion highlights the global recognition of Nigerian music and the country’s cultural significance within the Commonwealth.
