Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has opened up about his challenging journey to success, sharing how financial struggles and the loss of both parents shaped his life. Speaking on the Listen with Osi podcast, the award-winning rapper revealed the obstacles he faced while growing up and his desire to inspire others with his story.

“I want people to remember me as that guy who came out of nothing and became something,” Ice Prince said. “Look at my life story and be like, ‘if this idiot can make it, then I don’t have any excuse to fail.'”

The rapper detailed the impact of losing his parents at a young age, stating, “I don’t have a mother, I’m an only son and that’s quite tough. I’ve been that way since I was 11 years old when I lost my dad. I was 21 or 22 when my mum passed away, and I have a family that depends on me. I don’t have any uncles, aunties, Godfathers, or Godmothers that I can depend on. It’s been nothing but God in my life.”

Ice Prince also spoke about how financial difficulties hindered his education, recalling missed school days and losing a university admission due to a lack of funds. “I was the guy who would spend at least 3 weeks out of every school term at home because of school fees,” he shared.

Reflecting on the moment he couldn’t pay for his university admission, he said, “I didn’t go to university because of 20,000, which is like one spliff now. I had two weeks to pay that money for registration, and I couldn’t come up with it. That’s how I lost the admission and became a studio rat from there.”

Ice Prince hopes his journey will inspire others to overcome their own challenges, emphasizing that success is attainable despite imperfections.
